Batch Apex is used for large jobs (imagine thousands or millions of records!) that would exceed normal limits. Batch Apex allows you to process records asynchronously in batches (hence its name, “Batch Apex”) to stay within platform limitations. Batch Apex is probably your best option if you have a lot of records to process, such as data cleansing or archiving.
